Jakki James, Sales & Design Director of The Bathing Design Studio, Wetherby says that the days of the 'humble' bathroom have disappeared. Years ago the bathroom was considered the room where we would wash and clean our teeth before bed but times have changed. For many people the bathroom is an 'escape' room, somewhere they can go when the stress and strains of the day can be forgotten. Providing a relaxing environment has become a key feature of new bathroom designs.
Even with budgets a little tighter than they once were there's always a little wriggle room for a touch of luxury. Luxurious bathrooms these days can be spacious or quaint and there are many simple touches that can truly transform the 'humble’ bathroom.
Lighting - With a wide variety colours to choose from and situated in steps or discreetly placed in niches or even in the bath itself, the addition of atmospheric lighting can instantly provide elegance and ambience.
Mirrors - Replacing an old standard mirror or the medicine cabinet with a new wall-mounted or recessed model or simply installing a full sized mirror from the floor to the ceiling gives the illusion of greater space and brightens up your room.
Showers - No longer settle for the shower curtain, replace it with a more sophisticated glass door or a frame-less glass enclosure.
Heated Towel Rails - make sure you pamper yourself by wrapping yourself in a warm and cosy towel as you step out the bath or shower.
Heating - The radiator whether in a traditional or modern style, radiators are no longer the drab accessories they once were. With a multitude of colours, more ‘funky’ designs or the more off the wall contemporary design the radiator can truly be a work of art to decorate your bathroom.
Tiles - Are not just for the walls, consider the floor and when combined with under floor heating, it really is adding a sense of style.
Furniture/Accessories - Everyone knows that clutter can be the last thing you want to see when trying to relax. Choosing the right storage is an important feature not to be overlooked.
Finally - remember a place for that all important glass of wine!
